Question 1

How much does teeth whitening cost in Portsmouth?

Accepted Answer

Professional teeth whitening in Portsmouth typically costs between £250 and £900. In-chair Zoom or laser whitening is usually £400–£900 for a single session, while take-home custom-tray kits supplied by a dentist range from £250–£450. NHS dentistry does not cover cosmetic whitening, so all whitening treatments are private — even at NHS practices.

Question 2

How many dentists offer teeth whitening in Portsmouth?

Accepted Answer

We list 33 dental clinics in Portsmouth, 25 of which accept NHS patients for general dentistry. All clinics shown can offer private cosmetic whitening — by law in the UK, only registered dentists, dental therapists, or hygienists working to a dentist's prescription can legally whiten teeth.

Question 3

Is teeth whitening safe at a Portsmouth dentist?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Whitening carried out by a GDC-registered dentist in Portsmouth is safe and regulated. UK law limits hydrogen peroxide concentration to 6% (or equivalent), and your dentist will assess your gum health, existing fillings, and crowns first. Avoid beauty salons or unregulated providers — non-dentist whitening is illegal in the UK.

Question 4

What's the difference between NHS and private dentists in Portsmouth?

Accepted Answer

NHS dentists in Portsmouth provide essential dental care at fixed government rates (Bands 1–3, currently £26.80–£319.10). Private dentists set their own fees but typically offer shorter waiting times, longer appointments, and a wider range of cosmetic treatments including teeth whitening, veneers, and Invisalign. Many practices in Portsmouth offer both NHS and private treatment.

Question 5

How do I choose the best dentist for whitening in Portsmouth?

Accepted Answer

Look for a CQC-rated practice, check verified patient reviews, and confirm the clinician is GDC-registered. Ask about the brand of whitening used (Enlighten, Zoom, Boutique, Philips), whether you'll get custom-fitted trays, the total cost including consultation, and the expected number of shades of improvement. Most reputable Portsmouth clinics offer a free consultation.
